Now You: What's Your Take on Jesus?

Hare Krsna, everyone. Let’s start a “Now You” section on the website. It’s easy. Send us a message through the “send us a message” thingy in the contact thingy. Jaya! Ok. Let’s get the ball rolling: This one is from Anthony. He wants to know what's our take on Jesus.

Greetings Everyone! I am a devotee-follower of the Lord. The Lord commanded me to serve Him and His People, when I was eleven years old. "Anthony, preach to my People!" He told me in His Divine Presence-Feeling, accompanied by a whispery voice. I grew up in a church, that was Christian-Methodist, and learned about the Lord Jesus Christ and His Written-Word-The Holy Bible. As I grew in the church, I heard about other Religions. When I was a junior in high school, I lost my Faith unfortunately, because I learned about Human To Animal Reincarnation from a friend of mine. After high school, God got me back on track, starting with Christian-Baptist friends and searching in churches. I had remembered hearing a song by George Harrison called: "My Sweet Lord", when I heard it again. I heard the phrase: "hare krishna" in the song and asked my Christian-Baptist friend who was a Youth Pastor about if KRISHNA was a Name of God. He didn't believe it was. But recently found out it was. I loved the song My Sweet Lord so much, that I researched about KRISHNA and Hinduism-God was showing me through research, what different Religions were all about. He guided me from Hinduism to Buddhism, and then to Islam and finally to Mormonism. He taught me that it is ALL ONE AND THE SAME GOD in ALL RELIGIONS. He also allowed me to talk to some actual Hindus. That Jesus Christ is believed by Hindus to be a Form of Krishna and vise-versa. I learned that Buddhism is a form of Hinduism, and that Islam mirrors most Of Christianity. That Messionic-Judaism mirrors Christianity and that Mormonism mirrors Christianity too. So, now God's made me a Christian-Universalist. He won't condemn Atheists, Agnostics, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Mormons, other-Protestants, Catholics or Judaism-Jews. He also taught me to fight against the man-made theories of Evolution and others, and that theories about false-gods and goddesses, such as in Greek, Roman, Norse ect. Mythologies, were mockeries of Him. So, I just want to know your thoughts on other Religions, especially the Holy Bible and Christianity please. I know that Hindus and the Krishnas are extremely peaceful and loving. Hinduism I heard believe that All Religions have Truth from God in them. So, just I believe it's One World Religion-that I choose to call Christianity, no offense, with the other Religious Names as Denominations of it. Please, send me back your thoughts and opinions about this-especially Christianity as I said before please and I word be happy and peaceful in our Lord Krishna Jesus Christ to discuss this with you and in the Lord come into some agreement. Our Lord Jesus Christ bles and keep (love) you. Have a nice day Hare Krishna Jesus to you! Sincerely, Anthony Burkett

Hare Krishna, Dear Anthony

Thank you for your message and for your kind mentioning of Hare Krishna so many times. One cannot invent a name of God, but has to accept it from his authorized scripture. We, the followers of Krishna are accepting the authorized scripture to be the Vedas and in the Brhad Naradiya Purana it is stated:

harer nāma harer nāma

harer nāmaiva kevalam

kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva

nāsty eva gatir anyathā

"In this Age of Kali there is no other means, no other means, no other means for self-realization than chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name of Lord Hari.”

The name of God and God Himself are non-different, so simply by chanting one is in direct presence of the Lord. This is the best process of meditation for this age –chanting of the Holy names of God(sankirtan). Our minds are very much preoccupied with materialistic(ungodly) thoughts, but this simple chanting of God’s name can immediately purify such darkness. So far we know, Lord Jesus similarly preached “Holloweth Be Thy Name” so we find no difference.

God is our father and we’re all His children and to glorify God’s name as Lord Jesus says is indeed the only way how to achieve unity amongst nations, religions, races, you name it. However, unless we make God the center of all our endeavors, and stop treating God as though he was our servitor, we are taking the name of God in vain.

It is a great disappointment to see that so many people claiming to be Christians do not follow the commandments of the great Lord Jesus Christ. The holy scripture The Bible, which Lord Jesus Christ is the great teacher of and as great teacher does not contradict its teachings in any way for example says that “Thou shall not kill”, but we can still see so many so-called Christian followers maintaining big big slaughterhouses where our brothers and sisters, the animals, who are also children of God are being killed unnecessary in most brutal ways, despite the fact that a man can live a healthy life simply subsisting on vegetarian diet. Why this is so? They are violating the commandments of Lord Jesus Christ, neither they chant the name of God, only they are using the great Lord Jesus Christ as their pet servant to suffer for their sins on a cross. Just imagine, such an exalted personality as Lord Jesus Christ came to teach how to give up sinful life, but instead they killed him, continue slaughtering the animals and yet profess that Lord Jesus will take their sins. So this is horrible. If these misguided souls want to truly please Lord Jesus Christ however, we ask them to chant the names of God, give up the killing process as the Bible says and surely He will take their sins they have committed unintentionally and come back to Him, but if they want to continue this cheating, then I do not think Lord Jesus is obligated to save them. So in this way we do not find any contradiction in the teachings of the great Lord Jesus Christ. I would like to invite you to feel free and investigate further about our great non-sectarian movement by reading directly our holy books as presented by our spiritual master His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada such as the Bhagavad-gita As It Is and I’m sure as a follower of Christ, you will find them sublime and fully in accordance with the principles Lord Jesus is teaching us. Hope this meets you well with the Lord

Your servant Purujit dasa
